Handmade custom rugs. Natural materials and dyes

The antique rugs of the future

Rica Basagoiti was born in 1954 with our father, Juan de la Rica Basagoiti, who began to study antique carpets and import them into Spain, becoming a national reference and actively participating in all the rug shows and associations of antique dealers.

This passion that he had for the profession, with a philosophy based on craftsman quality and good work, was transmitted to us from childhood, and now three of his children continue with the family business. Over the years we have evolved along with the possibilities of the market and current needs, without losing that eagerness for our essence: continuous improvement and the quality of what is made by hand.

That is why we have created our own collection of rugs, for which we have the best craftsmen working with natural materials such as wool and silk, and using vegetable dyes.

We are proud to have recovered, for our "Alcaraz" design carpets, the extinct Spanish knot of Hispano-Arab carpets of the XVI and XVII centuries. A knot that is now unique in the world, which links over a single warp thread, crossed from behind, and returns to the main face on both sides of the warp.

Because of our philosophy and way of working, in Rica Basagoiti we try to develop rugs that, although made today, can become the antique rugs of the future.
